Mrs Tang:「I am a mother of two and my elder daughter is also studying P.1. For my opinion, If the teacher didn't complain your child have any study problem, let him go. He is now in Primary School not Kinder anymore, repeat may affect him emotionally or psychologically. Don't really use the position to judge your kid, The first or the last one may only have a few marks different. As it is very competitive in Primary and don't forget they are come from different Kindergarten, according to a very experienced teacher say, they will level up when they go to P.3. If at that time, your child still can't cope with others, then you may think some other ways to help him.
As you said your child is good at memory but weak at language application. Memory is limited, it can help you to learn faster, but you can't also memorize everything. So the best way you can do now, read with him more story books, no matter English or Chinese. Read with him until he found the interest in reading and he will automatically read it himself. My girl is from a Chinese Kinder, now she is in an English Primary School and cope with it quite well. That's the method I used and now she is very keen in reading.

Judith:「I think you need not to be too worry.
I was also the youngest pupil when studying primary school, Actually the principal had told my mother I may need to repeat P1 at that time.
My position was rate around 30-35 at P1, and at the first seminster of P2, I got position 22, but my result suddenly jump from 22 to No. 2 in the second seminster, and was keeping the first to third position from P3 to P6.
Don't let your children repeat in his primary school if not neccessary, it may affect his emotional/ pyschological status.
The thing we can do is be patient and take care of our children,
and wait until he/she "開竅", they will give you a fruitful result because of your love and care.
Never push children to achieve, but assist them when they require your help.」

「My son is studying in YMCA Int'l Kindergarten. YMCA is a very good kindergarten for young kids, although they only situated on the 2nd floor of the building, the kids do have chance to go to the Activity Room, the Gym, the library regularly.
They only have one half hour class once a week for Mandarin, so I dont think it will help the kids much about Chinese. For us, we buy Chinese exercise book for my son to practise reading and writing.
They do not have any homeworks but they have a lot of classworks to do, the teacher will return all to you by the end of each term, you will see a lot of improvements of your kid.
The overall school environment is very friendly and comfortable, they decorated the board and the class room periodically to match their theme of study.
The teacher is all qualified (as far as I know), they are all very affectionate and patient to the kids.
We also have very close relationship with the teacher since we have a communication book so we can talk to each other very often.
The school also arranges a lot of activities, like the school picnic, the Christmas show, the Easter show, we have the chance to participate as well.
YMCA does not have any examination for the kids, but they will do the assessment every term.
My son enjoys studying in YMCA very much, he learns a lot of things and sings a lot of songs.」
